Nelson Devereaux.

Nelson Devereaux was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and began playing music at an early age. Having become obsessed with the way music made himself feel as well as it’s profound impact on others, he searched for a way to make sound himself.

He began playing alto saxophone at the age of 8, inspired by big band music played by OKN and continued on to play in school bands quickly picking up flute and clarinet and studying with Berkeley Fudge and Aaron Gardner at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as well as Rob and Robin Engl at Wauwatosa East High School.

After High School, Nelson studied Music Education and Saxophone Performance at The University of Minnesota: Twin Cities in Minneapolis with Dr. Eugene Rousseau. Finding other musicians that better suited his musical interests outside of school, he maintained a steady performance schedule while working through college.

Soon after graduation, Nelson was asked to tour with Har Mar Superstar and has since toured the US, Canada, and Europe.

In mid-2015 Nelson recorded and produced his first solo record “Love, Nelson”, on which he recorded every instrument himself and released on December 21st, 2015.

Also in 2015, Nelson recorded soprano and alto saxophones on the Bon Iver record “22, A Million” and began his relationship with the band and his section “SADSAX” as they went on to tour the US in 2016. After a wildly successful US run, which included a nine-performance residency in New York City and entirely sold out West Coast run including the Hollywood Bowl, he went with the band to Europe the following year for shows in Barcelona (Primavera), Porto and Dublin. They eventually headlined the Coachella Music Festival in Palm Springs, California in 2017.

After the Bon Iver tours, Nelson and the rest of SADSAX began performing with the Bristol, UK trio “This Is The Kit” in Minneapolis and Chicago culminating in two nights at the Civic Opera Center opening for The National.

Nelson’s second and third records (“Early Fall” and “The Window”) happened between September 2016 and July 2017.

In 2018, Nelson has plans to tour with Har Mar Superstar as well as a guest appearance with Mild High Club.

His new record, “BAD WATER” will be out in summer 2018.
